A deblocking scheme using DCT domain and space domain filtering

AbstractBlock Discrete Cosine Transform (BDCT) based image compression often introduces quantization noise which exhibits blocking artifacts in the reconstructed images especially when the compression ratio is high. In this paper, we propose a new deblocking scheme for the BDCT compressed images. First, we define shift block and DCT domain bandwidth, and filter the shift blocks of the image according to the bandwidths of neighbor blocks. Then we regularize the DCT domain values using the quantization coefficients table. Finally we construct a space domain adaptive rational filter to smooth the block edges.
