AbstractAn effective method for the synthesis of sparse concentric ring array with uniform amplitude is proposed. Based on the Bessel function properties of far field dictated by the circular array and the theory of Compressed Sensing, the synthesis can be formulated as a convex optimization problem with minimization of l1norm. The radii and weights of the sparse concentric rings can be optimized simultaneously by sequential convex optimization method. The number of elements with uniform amplitude equally located on each ring is determined directly since it is proportional to the corresponding weight. The proposed method for concentric ring array optimization aims to achieve the desired power mask by adjusting the radii and the number of elements per ring. Moreover, the method is very easy to implement and has low computational burden. Numerical experiments are carried out to validate the flexibility and effectiveness of the proposed method.
