Abstract | The Interferometric Imaging Radar Altimeter (InIRA) is a new generation radar altimeter developed by China, which combines the function of interferometric radar altimeter and Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR). In this paper, we explored the retrieval method of wind speed from simulated InIRA echoes. The combined significant wave height (Hs) was first statistically derived from sea surface height (SSH), which was retrieved using the similar method by conventional altimeter. The swell Hs was estimated using swell spectrum extracted from InIRA data. Then the wind wave Hs was estimated using combined and swell Hs. Finally, the 10-m height wind speed was derived using an empirical relation between wind speed and wind wave Hs. Results showed InIRA has a good potential of retrieving wind speed. |
