AbstractA distributed formation control scheme that is built on the combined strength of consensus algorithms and the virtual structure approach is proposed for satellite formation flying subject to a Newtonian gravity field. a cooperative coordination architecture via the virtual structure approach is introduced, which are appropriate when a large number of satellite are involved and/or stringent inter-satellite communicat ion limitations are applied. In the decentralized scheme, each satellite in the format ion can be seen as a selfish agent, and instantiates a local copy of the state of the state of virtual center. The local instantiation of the virtual center in each satellite is then driven into consensus by communication with its neighbours following a bidirectional ring topology. In addition, a implementable control law with pseudo-rate modular is utilized. The effectivenes s of the proposed control strategies is demonstrated through simulation results.
