AbstractThere are two official sea surface height anomaly (SSHA) items in Jason-2 and Jason-3 satellite altimetry GDR (geophysical data record) data products, corresponding to different waveform retrackers: MLE3 and MLE4. Significant biases are found between these two retrackers. Closure analysis suggested that, sea state bias is the leading source of these biases. Further analysis inferred that the bias is significantly relevant to the off-nadir angle of the satellite. Improvements should be carried out to achieve homogenous measurements, especially in coastal zone.
