|Abstract||This paper aims at the design and implementation of the Virtual Rover simulation kernel needed for
flexible lunar and planetary rover system. The Virtual Rover Simulator (VRSim) is used for a
simulation-based space science rover system engineering process. The major challenge is the
automated generation of a virtual rover prototype simulation, which is supported by the model based
development approach and by using a system component repository containing ready to use models.
First, VRSim's architecture is introduced and simulation kernel architecture is proposed. Then, the
components of the kernel are introduced in detail. The simulation kernel makes rapid model assembly
possible. The VRSim is tested in the Chang’E-3 Project and proved that the simulation kernel is
